- How would your mother introduce you and your books?
My mom is a huge fan and is quick to tell people that I’m an author. She carries my business cards with her to hand out. It’s very sweet. When she is asked what I write she tells them romance and then follows up with “It’s weird to read sex scenes written by your own daughter.”
- How many books have you written?
Published 3 full-length and one short featured in an anthology. I have written many more that are in various stages.
- In your latest book what’s the angst for the main character?
My upcoming release Accidental P*rnstar features Jules, a driven and straight-laced college student that is offered an unconventional way to cover tuition. Hilarity and hot times ensue.
- What makes your main character and the love special?
Jules was fun to write because she is easy to relate to. As an author and mom, most of my day is spent working making it very easy to get into a mindset that makes it hard to unwind. That is very much Jules at the start of the book. She is a control freak that has her carefully made plans fall apart making her realize life needs a balance of work and play. Enter, Mavis Davis her former roommate that is charming, sexy and the sparks fly.
- What’s the name of the main character in your current WIP?
- What’s one of your crutch words?
Very (or like if I’m speaking. I have been trying to keep like out of my sentences since my senior speech class!)
- How long does it take you to write a book?
I can write the first draft in a week or less. Editing and revising take me months. To go from the initial draft to a version ready to publish it’s several months or close to a year.
- What’s your secret writing quirk?
I cannot write in a linear fashion or follow an outline. I like to think of myself as a writing rebel and I just have to give myself over to the muse and let the story write itself. I am not a person that is good with strict deadlines.
- When your writing what drink do you enjoy?
Water or coffee
- How do you handle writer’s block?
I switch projects when I’m stuck on one. There have been a few times that my creativity feels blocked completely. Then I look at what is happening around me that is creating the stress that has created the block so I can find a way to fix it.
- What movie is your go to for a good cry?
Me Before You. I saw a clip of that movie recently and it had me crying. Emilia Clarke and Sam Claflin were so wonderful in their roles even though I knew how it would end I was still rooting for them the entire movie.
- What TV show do watch when you want to binge watch TV?
It really depends on my mood but some of my favorite go to’s are Firefly, Moonlight, Letterkenny, Family Guy or Poldark.
- What household chore do you absolutely hate?
Taking out the trash.
- Do you believe in Aliens?
Not in the little green men X-Files or facehugger way. I do believe that in the entire universe other life forms exist.
January Bonus Question
What’s your New Year’s resolution and are you keeping it so far?
It wasn’t a resolution but after two years of a pandemic and all the stress and changes it brought, I gave myself permission to put my mental and physical health first. I’m no good to anyone if I can’t be good to myself.
